On Thursday 22nd September Google Expeditions Pioneer Program visited our school armed with 60 headsets to take our students and pupils on a journey with their virtual reality app. We were the fourth school to take part in this new venture. Expeditions is a virtual reality app built for the classroom and has over 200 places of interest to help bring lessons to life. ICT and Science pupils put on the viewing headsets and a variety of teachers led them on journeys to the Moon, the Great Barrier Reef, Antarctica, Galapagos, the stratosphere, Rio and even the Tardis. Using the headsets each pupil could look around a scene with a 360-degree view; cries of “it’s a seal” or “look at what’s behind you” could be heard. It was a great experience for all. The students and pupils were asked for their feedback and what features they would like to see in the future. All students and pupils were a real credit to the school and watch this space on using the virtual reality app within the classroom! Thank you to Mrs Jamison for organising this event.
