Hustings were held this week in the first stage to select the next senior prefect team and the School’s Head Boy and Head Girl. We heard some excellent speeches from everyone demonstrating belief in the School’s values and ideas for how the candidates would serve their school in the remainder of their time on roll. The next stage is a vote and then finally interviews with the Head Teacher and senior leaders in the School.
Assemblies this week provided a fantastic taste of the entertainment to look forward to when the our production of Beauty and the Beast takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings next week. Remaining tickets will sell out fast. Please see the website for details or click here.
It has also been anti-bullying week and in assemblies latest national statistics on bullying were given and pupils encouraged to reflect on all our roles in reducing bullying and encouraging respect for all. Like last year the national campaign focused particularly on online or cyberbullying. The Antibullying Alliance focus is Change Starts With Us. Form Tutors have copies of resources to encourage awareness and ideas.
Year 13 parents’ evening saw our first trial of Bromcom’s online parents’ evening booking system. Attendance increased on last year, an indication that overall our objective was achieved but there some technical glitches which we have learnt from and will smooth out in time for the next parents’ evening.
On the evening some excellent resources for parents were made available. These included ideas for days out to support academic achievement and subject specific parent tips. Electronic copies of these are available here:
October 2020/21 half term break
Having run a trial this year, we have decided that this will again be for two weeks starting on Monday, 19th October 2020. Now this has been decided we plan to publish the full term dates on the website soon.
Class Charts issue
A few days ago we discovered an issue with Class Charts. Some negative points were being recorded as positive. From the checks we have run this appears to have been resolved but you might want to log in to see if your child’s record is now displaying correctly. We apologise for any confusion.
A reminder about detentions
Where a teacher sets an after school detention for 20 minutes or less this can be completed without notice to their parent/carer and completed on the same day. Notice of 24 hours will be given to parents/carers for detentions longer than this. It is the responsibility of the pupil to ensure their detention is completed on the day and time set by their teacher, otherwise they risk a more severe sanction.
You will be pleased to hear that we have ordered some more robust student planners. These will be distributed to all students when we receive them. Homework is recorded electronically in Bromcom but planners can still be used for making notes and for communication with home/school.
The Christmas Ball is on the evening of Saturday, 7th December in the Main Hall from 7pm until midnight. Tickets include a three course meal and live music. Click here for further information.
An easy way to support the School is by taking part in the PSFA lottery. More details can be found here.
