All week in assemblies we have been recognising the achievements of our students. Awards were given for subjects and for House Points. These ceremonies close with a final presentation of Head Teacher’s Awards for those who have excelled in one way or another over the past term.
This week was also the week where we interviewed candidates for the role of Head Boy and Head Girl. Candidates need to first be elected as Prefects. They then write a letter of application to the Head Teacher and give speeches to their year group before a final vote. The three girls and three boys with the most votes are then interviewed by a panel including Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher and Achievement Coordinator. All those interviewed become the Senior Prefect Team for the year ahead, made up of Head Girl, Head Boy and deputies. We are pleased to announce the new Senior Prefect Team will be:
Head Girl – Tia Wenbourne
Deputy Head Girls – Ejejesu Fashina and Olivia Morbin
Head Boy – Liam Sawyer
Deputy Head Boys – Oliver Brewster and Anthony Ching
We wish them well in their endeavours to serve the School over the year ahead. When we come back for the summer term we will thank the current team and present badges to the new team in assemblies to ensure th whole school knows who they are and the importance of our whole prefect system.
Iceland and China
The group of KS4 geography students and accompanying staff has arrived in Iceland safely. A visit to the Blue Lagoon was planned for today. The trip to Iceland is always one which students will remember for ever.
Another group of students and staff will depart for China on Monday. This will be a trip of a lifetime and along with visits to famous landmarks like the Great Wall, the group will spend three days at our partner school, Nanya, in Hunan Province. They have brought with them various gifts to present to the School including one of two footballs donated to Darrick Wood by the One World organisation which uses football to spread the idea that we are all part of one world together. Twitter users can find out more about this by following @OneWorldFtball
This year titled The Greatest Gym Show, this was a major success on Wednesday. It involved gymnasts from all year groups working together and as individuals. It was a excellent way to show what happens when you work hard and practice something with dedication and commitment. They were all amazing. We are very grateful also to the staff who gave up so much of their time to help prepare the gymnasts.
Croydon Courts Open Day
Croydon Courts have what looks to be a fascinating Open Day on Saturday, 11th May 2019. They have asked whether any of our students or their families would be interested in attending.
