Darrick Wood School Success at London Youth Games
Both our Year 7 boys and Year 8 girls were successful in reaching the finals of the London Youth Games Sports Hall Athletics at Crystal Palace, representing Bromley and South London. This in itself is a monumental achievement and one which is unprecedented in the history of Darrick Wood School sports.
All our athletes have demonstrated outstanding dedication and hard work over the past three months, regularly attending training and making fantastic improvements in their disciplines. Today both teams exceeded our expectations once again and were up against the best schools, with the best athletes, in London.
What was a fantastic day overall, ended even better when the Darrick Wood Year 8 girls were placed in 3rd position, winning a bronze medal each. Year 7 boys were placed 7th. There are thirty three London boroughs in total, and to represent Bromley and finish 3rd and 7th, respectively , is a quite phenomenal achievement.
The teams are as follows:
Year 7 boys
Matthew Smith
Ben Platt
Jay Jackson
Alex Webb
Jamie Low
Isaac Agyapong
Louis Roberts
Year 8 Girls
Eve Ward
Ruth Chappell
Eva Cleveland
Charlotte Connelly
Annalise Lawrence
Summer Bennett
Maya Tucker
We are yet to receive the breakdown of the individual performances and placings, however we will highlight stand out performances when the official results are sent through.
With special thanks to all the PE department who worked so hard with these students both in lesson and out of lesson.
The students were impeccably behaved and really were a credit to Darrick Wood School throughout the day.
