Friday, 13th March is Sport Relief 2020 and today most students and staff took up the opportunity to wear their sports kit to school. We do not know the final amounts but that is sure to have raised over £1000 for Sport Relief. This will be added to the amounts raised through activities through the week including today’s staff vs. students netball competition at lunchtime. The match was well supported and very competitive. It ended in a draw so we look forward to a re-match sometime soon!
Year 9 parents’ evening was very busy on Thursday. It is such an important evening as Year 9 are now fully into their KS4 options process. The first parents’ evening where we did not shake hands probably felt a bit odd but seemed in the circumstances the appropriate thing to do.
We provided these in a recent bulletin but they are shown again here in case you missed them:
If the Classroom Rules are followed by all students, this enables everyone to have a much better chance of getting the most out of their education. Our full School Rules are published in the Student Planner and Rule 1 is really the basis for all the others and builds on our values of Respect, Responsibility and Honesty. Rule 1 states that:
Pupils are expected to behave sensibly and with consideration for others at all times (including when travelling to and from school).
It is expected that all students follow all these rules and live by School’s values. If they do not, then they can expect a sanction. They should not be surprised if a member of staff gives them a sanction. In accordance with the Home – School Agreement, we appreciate it when parents support the School’s decisions on these matters. Of course, the huge number of positive House Points in Class Charts shows that most Darrick Wood students understand this, follow our rules really well and are achieving highly as a result of working hard.
The PSFA’s second-hand uniform sale is in the Dining Hall on Saturday, 14th March 10-11.30am. It is always busy so come along early and pick up some bargains whilst raising money for the School.
The PSFA is now established as a registered charity of Amazon Smile. Please support the PSFA and the School by visiting https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ and nominate Darrick Wood PSFA as your chosen charity. Whenever you make a purchase from Amazon do it via https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ and the PSFA will receive some additional funding. If all involved with Darrick Wood School do this we could raise significant money for the School.
Don’t forget to join the PSFA Lottery – further details on the PSFA website.
Parents are reminded to check recent emails from the Head Teacher in relation to COVID-19 (coronavirus). We will continue to follow Government guidance and update you as necessary over the coming weeks.
