This week was Careers Week and in assemblies students were provided with information about the various post-16 and post-18 pathways and asked to consider their future career aspirations. Further information was available at lunchtime on Wednesday and Thursday and lots made the most of this opportunity. The School has an Independent Careers Adviser available for appointments and Mrs Flood (Pathways Coordinator) and Mrs Collier (Work Experience Coordinator) are also available in school (in a room in our Learning Support corridor).
We welcomed students in Year 9 and their parents to Options Evening on Thursday. This was a very busy evening and we hope everyone left feeling well informed. Year 9 parents’ evening is next Thursday, 12th March.
This morning, Orpington’s newly elected MP, Gareth Bacon visited the School and met with the Head Teacher. Whilst his schedule was tight, he found the time to walk round most of the School and saw some excellent examples of what goes on in lessons. He has promised to come back and to talk to students and to support the School in its endeavours to provide the best education it can for all.
Next week we will be focusing on fund raising for Sports Relief. The Sports Council has been busy preparing lots of activities over the week and on Friday we have ‘Sports Kit Day’ where students can swap their normal school uniform for their sports kit on payment of £1 to Sports Relief. Further details of all the activities and Sports Kit Day rules are shown below:
The PSFA are looking for a new Treasurer. If you think you can help then please email email@example.com
The next PSFA second hand uniform sale is on Saturday, 14th March in the Dining Hall 10-11.30am. Come along and pick up some bargains.
The PSFA is now established as a registered charity of Amazon Smile. Please support the PSFA and the School by visiting https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ and nominate Darrick Wood PSFA as your chosen charity. Whenever you make a purchase from Amazon do it via https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ and the PSFA will receive some additional funding. If all involved with Darrick Wood School do this we could raise significant money for the School.
Don’t forget to join the PSFA Lottery – further details on website.
Parents are reminded to check recent emails from the Head Teacher in relation to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
We have received complaints from members of the public about cars parked on the pavement and across driveways in the local vicinity. Parents are reminded to park with due consideration for local residents and not to impact on the safety of pedestrians including students of the School.
