Assemblies this week

Assemblies focused on how it is important, if we want to feel happy, to be ourselves. This is harder than it may seem as we are part of a wider community and society. In school we need to conform to the rules, uniform policy etc but at the same time we have opportunities to develop and grow as individuals in terms of character, knowledge, experience and skills. Working out what is expected of us in different environments (e.g. at home, with friends, at school, or at work) is important if we want to be positive contributors to society, but it is also important to feel like we can be ourselves within this framework.

Ear pods

Some students are still being found in school with ear pods etc. These must not be brought to school by those in Years 7-11. Sixth Form students should be mindful that anything brought to school that is expensive is at their own risk and ear pods may only be used in the Resource Centre and Common Room, not around the rest of the School. If they are seen elsewhere, they will be confiscated.

Thank you

Thank you to parents/carers who have gone the extra mile to ensure their child is in the appropriate school coat (plain dark brown). We are aware it can be difficult to find one other than those available in our two uniform shops, especially by this time of year, so your efforts are really appreciated.

Thank you also to the large number of parents of Year 9 students who attended our Key Stage 4 Science evening. We hope you found the evening useful and we look forward to seeing everyone at the options evening and Year 9 parents’ evening in March.

Making the most of what we offer

Is your child making full use of the opportunities available at Darrick Wood School? Our spring term extra-curricular timetable is available on the website.

Early close

On Thursday, 13th February the School will close earlier than usual to facilitate a cross-borough teacher training event. Year 11 and the Sixth Form will finish at 1.15pm. The rest of the School will finish at 2.10pm.

PSFA events and news

The PSFA are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday, 29th February 2020. £5 per team member, 8 members per team.  Bring your own drinks and nibbles. Children welcome. Info can be found here:

This is a fun way to help raise much needed funds for the School. Get a team together and enter ASAP.

The PSFA is now established as a registered charity of Amazon Smile. Please support the PSFA and the School by visiting and nominate Darrick Wood PSFA as your chosen charity.  Whenever you make a purchase from Amazon do it via and the PSFA will receive some additional funding. If all involved with Darrick Wood School do this we could raise significant money for the School.

In order to serve refreshments the PSFA need a larder fridge for storage of milk and cold drinks.  The current one is on its last legs and produce is having to be thrown away as a result.  If anyone has a large larder fridge (no freezer compartment) of at least 142cm tall they would be prepared to donate the PSFA Committee would be incredibly grateful. Contact if you can help.

For more information on everything to do with the PSFA please visit their Facebook page and website

Earth Day

Earth Day is 20th April 2020 and in conjunction with the World Class Schools organisation we plan to get involved at Darrick Wood. More information will follow but one important part of this will be an episode of our audio drama set in a fictional comprehensive school Danson Wood High. Our students are currently recording this special episode. We encourage everyone involved with the School to listen to podcasts currently available and to get ready for the Earth Day episode.
