With examinations continuing and preparations being made for the next academic year, this is always a very busy time of year so the half term break will be welcomed by all. The public examinations continue when we return so we hope that those taking these get the right balance between rest and continuing the work needed for success.
Mock European Union elections
On Thursday, our Head Boy, Liam Sawyer and friends organised a mock EU election. Students of all age groups were able to vote for any one of the parties being represented in the London area. We will not know until next week how close the School’s results will reflect the London or national picture but at Darrick Wood it was a marginal Green Party win with 16.2% of the vote.
Year 13 Leavers’ Ball
This evening (Friday) Year 13 gather for their Leavers’ Ball. Whilst there are examinations to complete after the half-term break this will be an excellent way to celebrate their time together at Darrick Wood as their formal school education comes to an end and they begin their journeys into what we hope will be exciting and fulfilling lives.
Thank you to all parents/carers who have responded to our parents’ evening survey. A summary of views and actions will be shared after half term.
KS3 Sports Day
Parents of pupils in Years 7-9 have been sent an email regarding Sports Day which will be held on Tuesday, 16th July. This will be held at Norman Park Athletics Track. Within the email sent there are two links, one at the top and one at the bottom. Parents are requested to click on either one of these to input their son’s or daughter’s name which will then confirm they have read and understood the information provided. A register will be taken in the usual way once pupils have arrived at the track.
Dates for the diary
The half-term break is from Monday, 27th May until Friday, 31st May. Students return to school again on Monday, 3rd June.
Gifted and Talented Evening – Wednesday, 19th June
Drama Department/PSA Murder Mystery – Thursday, 27th June
Year 7 Foam Party – Friday, 28th June
Reminder about PE Kit
Pupils in Years 7-10 in September 2019 will all be expected to have the new style PE kit available from our usual uniform suppliers (Oz and Graduates). Pupils moving from Year 10 into Year 11 will be allowed to continue wearing the old kit if it still fits. The uniform shops now only sell the new style kit.
