On Tuesday April 25th a group of 24 pupils from years 7, 8 and 9 were chosen to take part in a workshop alongside Neal Zetter, a comic performance poet.
The poetry sessions were designed to boost confidence in pupils who had already shown an interest in poetry and English and to give them further insight into creating and performing poetry.
The pupils listened to poems that Neal had written and joined in with the performance of them. They also all wrote their own poems based on a colour, as well as an eight line short poem that they wrote and performed to each other in small groups.
Neal’s latest published poetry book had been named in the top 15 children’s favourite poetry books by the Book Trust.
Overall, the day resulted in some very inventive and exploratory poems. It was a resounding success and enjoyed by all those who took part.
