UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019

DWS Audio is proud to announce that two of our audio plays have been included in the UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019. One of Our Exercise Books is Missing and Free Fall will be showcased on Thursday 21st March at Café Nero in Canterbury, the venue for this year’s festival. The plays will also be available online via the radio drama festival website, where you can listen and vote for your favourite play. Mr Chappell

Congratulations to all who entered the inaugural Darrick Wood School Christmas Card Competition. The standard of entry was extremely high, with many excellent pieces commended for their effort.  The first place was given to Oliver Watson, followed by Aqil Ahmed and Angela Veickovska in third place.  Congratulations!

We are delighted that two students have been chosen to exhibit at the V&A Museum of Childhood as part of the Take pArt Challenge competition. A huge congratulations to Amber Blake & Georgia Barnard for having their art work shortlisted. All submissions will be judged at a private show, held at the V&A Museum of Childhood on the 29th November. Congratulations from the Art Department and all at Darrick Wood School

Darrick Wood Artists Receive National Recognition

We are delighted that three Year 12 students were chosen to exhibit at a  prestigious nationwide competition yesterday. The Mall Gallery received approximately 25,000 entries. Out of those, 340 were selected and 4 of which were chosen from Darrick Wood – a quite phenomenal achievement. National Students’ Art Exhibition Success

The Art and Photography Department are pleased to announce that this year we have four pieces of work exhibited in a prestigious London gallery. This week 17 of our talented year 7 musicians, together with our Chamber Choir and A level Music students, participated in two jazz and improvisation workshops led by Drummer Phelan Burgoyne. The standard of entries was very high, and the judging panel had a very difficult task choosing the top three. On Wednesday 19th April, ten Year 13 students studying A2 Literature visited the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Theatre for a production of set text, Shakespeare’s Othello. As befitting Shakespearean Tragedy, the performance was not without controversy. The setting, part of the superb Globe Theatre complex, was highly authentic; the entire performance in this very small and intense theatrical space was lit only by candles, as it would have been in Jacobean times when Othello was first performed.
